Physiotherapists’ ethical behavior in professional practice: a qualitative study

Background In health professions, ethics is considered a fundamental competence. The increase in clinical autonomy the field of physiotherapy associated with an ethical situations their practice. Objective To explore relationship between physiotherapists and patients, training received by physiotherapists, if context, identify necessary attitudes apply recommendations profession for they experience. Methods A qualitative exploratory descriptive study was performed physiotherapists. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews. data analyzed using content analysis, as proposed Krippendorf. protocol approved University Valencia Ethics Committee Human Research. Results This included 15 (66.66% women, average age = 42.2 years), which sufficient to reach saturation. We identified four categories: (i) (ethical values, principles, norms; type relationship), (ii) (during studies; current students; low importance curriculum), (iii) Necessary professional practice (main identified: personal attitudes); (iv) Experiences from (general; public sector vs. private sector). Conclusion patients determined practitioner, are result his or her values previous experiences; very centered on indication (founded mainly principles Beneficence Non-Maleficence). It improve poorly focused attitudes.
